Throughout the Anglican Communion, a parish vestry corresponds to a board of directors of a secular
organization. It elects the Rector of the parish and oversees its secular affairs. George Washington was a vestry
member.

The Vestry meets monthly to discuss, reflect and take action on the many important aspects of Parish life. It
consists of the Rector and nine members of the parish, two of which are selected as Senior and Junior Wardens.
Vestry members are elected at the annual parish meeting held in January, and they serve three-year terms of
office. The Vestry elects a treasurer and clerk who attend regular meetings.

Parishioners are invited to attend monthly meetings. It is important to the Vestry that all parishioners feel
welcome to share thoughts and ideas about God’s vision for us as a Christian community.

Portfolios of the Vestry Members
Each vestry member is assigned and undertakes a personal interest in specific administrative areas of the parish
through the functions of policy, oversight and resources. Committee chairs look to this system of portfolios as a
means of interfacing with the vestry.
